History

Qatar Golf Society was established on 29/10/1991. The chairman of the Public Authority For Youth And Sport issued resolution No. 17 of 1991 on 29/10/1991 setting up the board of directors of Qatar Golf Society. The board of Directors decided switching Qatar Golf Society to an official federation. Qatar Golf Association was declared officially by the Public Authority For Youth And Sport through resolution No. 13 of 1993 on 7/2/1993.One of the developments of the Qatar Golf Association that it joined the Arab Golf Federation (AGF) and won the honor of getting the post of First Deputy Chairman of the Arab Federation by Mr. Mubarak Khalifa Al Mohannadi who is one of the pioneers and founders of Golf in Qatar.Qatar Golf Association also joined the International golf Federation (IFG) and the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) as well as the Organizing Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Since the establishment of the Qatar Golf Association in 1991, golfers perform practice and championships on sandy golf courses at Umm Siad (Messaieed) and Dukhan. In 1996, golfers began to perform their golf practice on the green grass at Doha Golf Club after its inception in January 4, 1997.Qatar Golf Association organized a large number of local, regional, international and global championships including:

– International Qatar Open amateur Golf Championship which has a great reputation among amateurs from all the world. The first Open Championship was held in 1983 at Umm Siad (Messaieed) club and then it was held at Doha Golf Club and it is still held there annually.

– Qatar Masters Golf championship which is an international championship for professionals. It is one of the largest sporting events that is held on Qatar and covered by media worldwide. It is transferred live to all the world moment by moment. The first Masters championship has been launched in 1998.In the framework of disseminating golf in Qatar, Qatar Golf Association established Qatar Golf Academy with the aim to introduce the sport of golf and attract young Qatari players.Qatar Golf Academy was officially opened on 15/03/2002 by His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Heir Apparent of Qatar in the presence of a large number of dignitaries, among them was the golfing legend, Mr. Gary Player.Qatar Golf Academy has been able to build a distinct base of Qatari juniors who have participated in several training camps and different global, continental and Arab championships.

• Dissemination of golf in the State of Qatar

• Increasing the number of golf courses in Qatar

• For the golf national team, to win the gold medals in the local, Arab and Gulfchampionships

• Using the latest innovative drills and training techniques

• Tourism Activation through hosting international and regional championships.
