Qatar Masters means a lot for us, says QGA Secretary Fahad Al Naimi

By Mohammad Amin

DOHA (Qatar): The Golf Association (QGA) Secretary General Mr Fahad Nasser Al Naimi felt that organising 2021 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters has been one of the most grueling challenges for his team due to the ongoing Covid19 pandemic around the world.

The event is being organised by QGA with support from the Qatar Olympic Committee and long-term title sponsor, Commercial Bank Qatar, under strict health protocols as prescribed by the Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health.

Mr Fahad spoke to www.qga.com.qa at the Education City Golf Course on Tuesday.

How tough was the challenge to host this year’s event?

Well, this year was really tough for us to host this tournament. But Alhamdulillah, with the support from the Qatar Olympic Committee and approval from the Ministry of Public Health that we could be able to host 2021 Qatar Masters.

We had worked very hard to organise this tournament because Qatar Masters means a lot for us. It’s an important event and a historical one. Besides, Education City Golf Course is new and good one. We will get to watch 145 professionals playing. In sha Allah it will be a good tournament.

Qatar Masters has completed 24 years. What's your take on this achievement?

Yeah. It’s a big thing for QGA. We consider this tournament very important for us. So that’s why we insisted on hosting this year despite the difficulties that we are in due to the pandemic.

Will Qatar Masters go back to its original destination at Doha Golf Club?

Maybe, yes. We will get to know soon after studying the exact ground realities and conditions at the Doha Golf Club Course. But we are hopeful to have it there next year.
